Virgin Media launches 50MB super fast broadband service

Posted by admin On December - 15 - 2008

Virgin Media has become the first internet service provider to offer a 50Mbps broadband package to UK internet users. This next generation broadband service will cost around £51 a month, but is reduced to £35 a month if users sign up for a Virgin phone line, which costs an additional £11 a month.

The 50Mbps broadband package makes Virgin the fastest internet provider in the UK, followed by Be Broadband that offers a 24Mbps package for £17.50 a month. Trials of the new service were carried out in Kent during 2008 and will now be offered country-wide over the next six months.

Following the news, BT announced that it will be trialling its new fibre optic broadband service in London and Cardiff in 2009. The trials will cover up to 15,000 business and home users and will be able to deliver speeds of 40Mbps.
