Obama’s Presidential limousine unveiled

Posted by admin On January - 15 - 2009

General Motors and Cadillac have shown the first pictures of Barack Obama’s presidential limousine. Nicknamed ‘The Beast’, the new armoured Cadillac makes its debut on the 20th of January and will take Barack Obama to the inaugural parade.

The Secret Service has said that the 2009 Cadillac Limousine is a valuable asset for the highest level of protection for its passengers. As you can expect, not much is known about the car or its specifications, but it is expected to have bullet proof glass, a heavily armoured body and a sealed interior to protect against chemical and biological attacks.

A General Motors speaker told the press that “One of the specifications is that we don’t talk about the specifications”.

But in a separate statement, Nicholas Trotta from the Office of Protective Operations stated that “Although many of the vehicle’s security enhancements cannot be discussed, it is safe to say that this car’s security and coded communications systems make it the most technologically advanced protection vehicle in the world.”

Obama makes history and becomes the 44th American President

Barack Obama made history today by winning the presidential election, and will become the first African American to hold the highest position in the country’s office. Obama will now become the 44th American president when he is sworn in on the 20th of January next year.

Barack Obama led his rival John McCain by 349 Electoral College votes to 161, easily passing the ‘magical number’ of 270 that is needed to secure the presidency.

In a speech shortly after the election results, Barack Obama said “It’s been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining moment, change has come to America.” He also went on to say that his presidential win was the beginning of “our time to reclaim the American dream”.

In his speech, John McCain urged his supporters to “come together and bridge our differences to restore our prosperity, defend security and leave our children and grandchildren a better world than ours.”

Mr Obama will face a number of challenges when he takes over the presidency next year, including the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the ongoing global economic crisis as well as reforming the American health system.

Sarah Palin’s glasses start fashion craze in the US

Vice-Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin has not only been making waves in the political scene, she has also been starting a fashion craze in the US. Opticians in America have seen a huge increase in demand for the same glasses worn by the self confessed “Hockey Mum” and many have sold out over the past week.

The glasses in question are by designer Kasuo Kawasaki and are from his 704 collection. The glasses retail for $375 (around £210) and opticians all over the states are trying to stock the style. Sarah Palin bought hers from an optician in Alaska; they have been inundated with email requests for the aptly named ‘Sarah Palin glasses’.
