A cargo ship carrying rocket equipment hit the Eggner Ferry Bridge last week causing a 300ft hole as the asphalt and metal structure got entangled on the ship’s bow.
Thankfully no-one was hurt as at the time there were only four cars on the bridge, which can carry up to 2,800 car per day. The ships 20 crew members also escape injury as the ship destroyed two section of the bridge.
The Governor of Kentucky Steve Beshear told the press, “We are grateful that this wreck caused no injuries or loss of life.
“Since that bridge carries 2,800 cars every day, we were very fortunate that no one was on the span at that time”.
He added that, “We’ll turn our attention to a full inspection of the bridge and determine what steps we can take next to speed up the replacement of that important artery”.
An investigation is still on going into the incident.
