An office worker from Denver, US, caught a thief red-handed after recording him rifling through her bedroom on her webcam and iPhone app. Claire Blevins set up the iCam app on her iPhone to watch her terrier dog playing, but instead caught the thief as he triggered the motion sensor on the webcam.

The 23 year old office worker said, “I’m really thankful I had the app. It’s good to know what he touched, what he went through and things like that but it’s still the creepiest thing that’s happened to me”.

A suspect has been remanded and is on trial for the burglary after the video was shown on local television last month. He denies the charge.

An earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale hit North Yorkshire last night and could be felt as far away as Newcastle and Sunderland. It hit just after 9pm on Monday night and is thought to be the largest earthquake in the region for 230 years.

Dr Aoife O’Mongain from the British Geological Survey said that the tremor was the biggest to hit North Yorkshire since 1780, adding that it had “only lasted for a couple of seconds”.

The epicentre of the quake was around 10 miles west of the city of Ripon, near a village called Kirby Malzeard. Local residents said that their houses shook for around 5 seconds; no damage was reported.
