Officials at the seaside town of Castellammare di Stabia in Italy are planning to ban miniskirts and a whole host of other revealing clothing in a bid to crack down on anti-social behaviour and improve standards of public decency.
The town’s mayor, Luigi Bobbio said that the proposed regulations would, “restore urban decorum and facilitate better civil co-existence”.
People braking the rules could face fines of between €25 (around £22) and €500 (around £438) and the new regulations would not only affect women wearing miniskirts, but a whole host of other clothing including low-cut jeans. If the proposals are passed by a council meeting this week then there will also be a ban on playing football in public areas, sunbathing and even blasphemy.
Local parish priest Don Paulo Cecere welcomed the news saying, “I think it’s the right decision” adding: “It’s also a way of combating the rise in sexual harassment”.
